Scuba Training (Back-Mounted)

Technical capability does not begin at depth, overhead, or decompression. It begins with how a diver moves, maintains position, and manages tasks in open water using a traditional back-mounted configuration.

At S & S Diving, this training focuses on recreational-level back-mounted diving taught with technical outcomes in mind. The objective is not to push limits, but to build stable, repeatable fundamentals that support future progression into more demanding environments.

Instruction emphasizes buoyancy control, horizontal trim, efficient propulsion, and awareness while diving standard single-tank, back-mounted equipment. Skills are developed methodically, with attention paid to posture, weighting, gas management, and task execution under calm, controlled conditions.

Rather than introducing complexity early, training prioritizes control before challenge. Divers learn to remain stable while performing basic tasks, communicate clearly with teammates, and maintain situational awareness — habits that carry forward into technical, sidemount, or overhead training later on.

This approach is well suited to divers who:

  • Dive in a traditional back-mounted configuration

  • Want to improve precision and control at recreational depths

  • Are considering future technical or advanced training

  • Prefer structured development over rushed certification

Training is instructor-led and adapted to the individual diver’s experience and goals. Configuration and technique are discussed openly so divers understand not just what to do, but why it matters as complexity increases in the future.

This training stands on its own as a way to become a more capable recreational diver, while also forming a solid foundation for those who choose to pursue technical pathways later.

Next Step:

Training begins with a consultation and deposit to discuss experience, objectives, and appropriate next steps.
